Director of Bands

Amber Moore joined the Mann Band Staff as Director of Bands in 2019. Prior to her gaining the position at Mann, Mrs. Moore was the Associate Director of Bands at Rice Middle School in Plano, Texas. During her six year tenure at Rice, bands under her direction earned numerous UIL “Sweepstakes” awards as well as first-division and Best in Class recognition at several North Texas music festivals including the Peak Music Festival contest at the Eisemann Center and the Beach Within Reach contest in Fort Worth.

Mrs. Moore is a graduate of Greenwood High School in Midland where she was a four year ATSSB All State hornist, selected as a TSSEC outstanding soloist and was awarded the prestigious John Phillip Sousa award. She graduated Summa Cum
Laude from Stephen F. Austin State University with her Bachelor of Music degree. During her time at SFA, Mrs. Moore participated in numerous ensembles and was named principal horn of the SFA Wind Ensemble, Orchestra of the Pines and SFA Opera Orchestra. She completed her Master of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies degree and Principals certification from the University of Texas at Arlington.

Mrs. Moore’s professional affiliations include the Texas Music Adjudicators Association, Texas Music Educators Association, Pi Kappa Lambda, and the Texas Bandmasters Association.  She is an active clinician and adjudicator in Texas and was an invited presenter on beginning French Horn pedagogy for the 2018 Texas Bandmasters Association Annual Convention in San Antonio.

Mrs. Moore recently moved to Abilene with her husband, Nathan, and their cat, Belle. She enjoys spending time with family, baking, and taking Disney vacations.

Associate Director of Bands

Emma Hoover joined the Mann Band Staff as Associate Director of Bands in 2019. Prior to gaining the position at Mann, Ms. Hoover was a private bassoon instructor in Keller ISD,  a member of the East Texas Chamber Winds, and an active performer with the Longview Symphony Orchestra during the 16/17 and the 17/18 Seasons. 

Ms. Hoover is a graduate of Keller High School where she gained membership in both the All Region and All Area Bands and marched cymbals on the Keller High School Drumline. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Stephen F. Austin State University with her Bachelor of Music Degree with a minor in German. During her time at SFA, Ms. Hoover participated in numerous ensembles and was named co-principal bassoon and eventually principal of the SFA Wind Ensemble, Wind Symphony and the Orchestra of the Pines. Ms. Hoover was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to travel and perform  with the SFA Wind Ensemble at their prestigious Texas Music Educators Associations Invited Performance in 2017.

Ms. Hoover’s professional affiliations include Pi Kappa Lambda and the Texas Music Educators Association. 

Ms. Hoover recently moved to Abilene with her dog Chewie. She enjoys baking, staying active through Yoga and Jiu-Jitsu, and her new role of being an aunt! 

Christina Hurlbut

Director of Percussion, Abilene HS Cluster

Ms. Hurlbut grew up in Highland Village, Texas where she studied piano for 7 years and began pursuing percussion in 6th grade.  She attended Marcus High School and performed with the UIL State Champion Marching Band and Drumline from 2006-09.  Ms. Hurlbut received her Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education in 2015 and Master’s Degree in Percussion Performance in 2017, both from Brigham Young University.  She has performed with several groups including the BYU Philharmonic Orchestra, Percussion Ensemble, Panoramic Steel Band, BYU Wind Symphony, Cougar Marching Band, and BYU Chamber Orchestra, which toured the Philippines in May 2017.  Ms. Hurlbut has received several awards from the Utah Chapter of the Percussive Arts Society and has performed in the Utah Valley Steel Band Festival twice.  She has performed and studied with various artists including, Dr. Ron Brough, Michael Burritt, Ivan Trevino, Nancy Zeltsman, She-e Wu, Lea Salonga, Amy Grant and Michael W. Smith.  Ms. Hurlbut loves to travel and learn about percussion in other cultures.  She joined the AHS Band Staff in the 2017-18 school year

Tyler Jacks

Tyler Jacks

Associate Director of Bands, Abilene High School / Mann MS Beginning Trombone

Mr. Jacks, a native of Austin, Texas, began his musical career with piano lessons and singing in choirs.  As a member of the Grisham Middle School and Westwood High School band, he played trombone in the Wind Ensemble and served both programs in a number of different roles.  He attended the University of Texas at Austin, where he was a member of the Longhorn Band, Mu Phi Epsilon, and the University Leadership Network, and received a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Studies with high honors.  As a student at UT, he also had various performance opportunities, including the International Trombone Festival in Valencia, Spain with the UT Trombone Choir.  Additionally, Mr. Jacks worked as a marching technician for Westwood High School and Leander High School, and as a member of the award-winning Santa Clara Vanguard Drum and Bugle Corps, he was showcased as a soloist.  Mr. Jacks started his teaching career at Abilene High School in the 2018-2019 school year.
